Beacon Supports NAVSEA Outreach Efforts to WOSB December 16, 2015
For the second year in a row, Ms. Mackey, in her role as the Chair of the Women’s Business Committee for SBANE, coordinated and hosted a Boston-based Navy SBIR WOSB Outreach event.  The focus was on informing women in the small business community on how to take advantage of the SBIR Program for non-dilutive investment funds.  As a commitment to the SBANE WBN, the NAVSEA SBIR Program office has promised to return to Boston this Spring to meet with any attendees of this event who submit proposals from either a Woman Owned Small Business or with a woman Primary Investigator on their proposal.  This debrief effort is part of an ongoing commitment from the NAVSEA SBIR Program Office to increase the participation of women in the Navy’s SBIR Program.

Mr. Dick McNamara, former Executive Director of PEO Subs and currently of the NAVSEA SBIR Program Office presented a general overview of the SBIR Program and specific details about the Navy’s SBIR Program.  Based on his experience successfully transitioning over $1B of SBIR investments into the submarine community he presented the audience with very practical advice on how to successfully engage in the Navy’s SBIR process.  The event also included individuals from various areas of Naval Sea Systems Command, who each presented a review of SBIR Topics in the currently open Navy SBIR solicitation as well as met individually in structured one-on-one meetings with event participants.

Ms. Mackey spoke about Beacon's transitions of SBIR investments to Navy customers as well as how to successfully leverage the generated IP into the private sector and spin-out companies.  T

The event was hosted by and held at the law offices of McCarter & English.
